However, for those of you who are comfortable on your stomach, your pillow should be relatively flat. You could even rest your head directly on the mattress to strain on your head and neck. To maintain a natural alignment on your lower back, you can rest a flat pillow under your pelvis or abdomen.

A quality feather pillow is one that uses small, highly curled feathers. It should also have a thick cover, preventing quills to poke you. The downside with feather pillows is that it needs constant fluffing. It’s also difficult to clean and more allergenic than other pillows. Feather pillows are ideal for back sleepers and slide sleepers.

  • Down Pillows:

Down is the bottom, fluffy part of a bird’s feathers. These pillows are considered a luxury pillow because they are soft and supple. It moldable and tends to hold its shape well. A memory foam pillow is a more expensive option. However, it might be worth it because it follows the curvatures beautifully, supporting the head and neck. It reduces pressure on sensitive areas because it adjusts to the alignment of your head, neck, and shoulders. The downside of memory foam is it makes moving around more difficult. That’s because it follows the mold of your head, making your head “sink”. The material might have an unpleasant odor, but you can air it out before using it. Memory foam pillows are ideal for back sleepers because it keeps your spine aligned.

  • Latex Foam:

The material is firm, making it an excellent support for the neck and head. It’s a lot bouncier and lighter than memory foam. It’s also more breathable than memory foam. However, it’s not such a cuddly pillow because it’s quite dense and heavy. Latex pillows are ideal for back sleepers and side sleepers.

Synthetic-Fill Pillows

Synthetic-Fill pillows are made of polyester fibers or rayon. They are highly hypoallergenic and affordable. However, they don’t last as long as other types of pillows.

  • Polyester:

This is popular because it’s cheap. It’s also easy to clean. However, the polyester fill clumps quickly, making it quite uncomfortable. The synthetic material is also not very environment-friendly. Polyester pillows are good for back and side sleepers. They also work well with stomach sleepers, if it’s not too think.
